Yellow Cocktail Music

c9c8a1e6ff632122f348ddc2aad02b67Have you ever wondered what happened to the more jazzy (and more true to the Jazz Age) versions of the tunes that bouncing off the roller coaster ride called Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby? They got released as The Great Gatsby Jazz Recordings. Yass!!

Bryan Ferry and his Orchestra redid some of the popular songs on the Original Soundtrack to this great movie. And then they added a few classics by Mr. Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton. That’s what I call sweet music.

The Great Gatsby (2013) Soundtrack Pt.2

The Great Gatsby 392x392Universal Music finally released the track list for the Soundtrack to Baz Luhrman’s take on Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. Seems like Jack White and Kanye (playing in my previous Gatsby post) get the company of Soundtrack Executive Jay-Z, his friends and his wife.

The pop hip-hop soundtrack might fit pretty well with the larger-then-life production and art direction for the 2013 Great Gatsby movie (that was originally scheduled as the ultimate Christmas Cracker of the year 2012). Some new stars of which Emili Sandé and Bryan Ferry’s rework of ‘Crazy in Love’ should be fun.

Now why did Beyoncé have to redo Amy’s ‘Back to Black’… and how did it end up on the list? I think Baz should used his veto at this point and play the Moody Boys Refix of ‘Love is a Losing Game’. Loud. Like he did with ‘Love is Blindness’ by Jack White.

Out of Print: A Great Gatsby Shirt

More Great Great Gatsby things. Do I look like a freak that collects Gatsby nicknackery? Nah, it’s just that I grew up in the 90’s when t-shirts with prints, big prints, were cool. I Still like them, just like I like the oversized Levi’s found in the attic of my wife’s family home. Must have suited her well back then, they fit fine with me today.

Out of Print‘ reads the label, a cool name to company that makes t-shirts for book fiends. The shirts are of superior quality, fit well and have lovely designs… and they would definitely add to the Booktunes website if we’d have a webshop.

As I know we will not be able to sell merch from our site anytime soon and these wonderful tees are ultimate Christmas presents (though I can’t find a limited Dickens special), I recommend you to get the shirts online from the company’s website (US) or from Bookish (UK).

For all Dutchies: Let me know which shirt you want and I’ll drop ‘m off at your door before Christmas Eve. Yes, I am looking forward to a weekend in Brighton  and will ask the dopest shirt seller in town to box some up in a Booktunes box.

Booktunes Movies: The Great Gatsby (2013)

A bit sad by the fact that the release of Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby has been put off, I played the trailer to my wife and sis to show them what we will not be getting for Christmas 2012. Trailer still says ‘this christmas’… let’s just hope that the trailer is stubborn and not referring to Chrismas 2013.

We were all blown away by the beautiful  shots, the styling, the great 1920′ views and, to be honest, I got a bit emotional when Jack White’s cover of Love is Blindness kicked in. Well, Maybe it had to do with the intense yoga class we had earlier this morning.

Curious to finding out more about Baz Luhrmann’s musical choice for this movie (remember the Moulin Rouge & Romeo & Juliet Soundtracks), I rewound to the Jay-Z & Kanye West tune at the start of the trailer… not bad but hey, I am sure Jack White is the best forerunner. Plus a good sport.

Let’s list the tunes here and listen to the sounds while waiting for the movie. Keep me posted on Great Gatsby Soundtrack news!

Old Sport, 8 Bit – A Gatsby Game!

This is so great! My gaming and reading brother wikiPete sent me this link a week ago. Ai. Took me a week to find out how much fun you can have clicking on all links people send out. He is not just a people by the way.

Some guy found an old Nintendo cartridge at a yard sale. It only wore a sticker that said ‘Gatsby’, so it seems to be a lost Japanese copy of Doki Doki Toshokan: Gatsby no Monogatari… hahaha yeah right! Press play.

Charlie, Pete, Dylan & Michael teamed up to realize this game. Big up to them, more info about this winning team here. As a bonus they offer the soundtrack as a free download through Download Booktunes’ favourite dry Martine Rag on the click. Enjoy!
